Why a periodontist?
Your dentist has recommended that you see a periodontist. A periodontist is a trained specialist who helps patients maintain their oral and dental health for a lifetime.
What will happen at my first visit?
At your first visit your medical and dental history will be reviewed. A thorough and comprehensive oral examination and oral cancer screening will be completed. A proposed comprehensive treatment plan will be developed and presented to you. Any concerns and questions you may have about any aspects of your care will be discussed.
What is periodontal treatment?
Today the scope of periodontal treatment encompasses many different types of treatment options. The major goal of any periodontal treatment is to control the patient's periodontal infection, stabilize or rebuild the supporting structures of the teeth, and work with the patient in a comprehensive periodontal maintenance program to maintain their oral health for a lifetime.
When will I return to my dentist?
Your periodontist and your dentist will work together to develop and deliver a comprehensive oral health care plan. During your active periodontal treatment your dentist may be called upon to deliver segments of that care. After active periodontal treatment in our office, a supportive periodontal maintenance program will be developed and tailored to your individual oral health care needs. Both our office and your dentist's office will participate in the delivery of portions of your periodontal maintenance program.
